What is UTP Full Form in Computer?

The UTP full form on the computer is an Unshielded Twisted Pair. This is a common type of electrical cable that is used for transmitting data in networking and communications. UTP cables are made up of twisted pairs of insulated copper wire. The twisting reduces electromagnetic interference and crosstalk between the pairs.

Applications of UTP:

UTP cables have no extra shielding around the twisted pairs. This means they are less immune to external interference than STP cables.UTP cables are commonly used in Ethernet networks, particularly local area networks (LANs), to connect network devices, including PCs, routers, and switches. They are relatively easy to install and handle and are less expensive than the shielded cables.

Cable categories of UTP:

UTP cables were designed for voice applications. Voice UTP cables were only required to transport analog signals, which are extremely resilient and not easily distorted by electrical noise or EMI. However, because UTP cables were utilized for many systems, higher-grade UTP cables were needed to accommodate data systems that used digital signaling. Higher-category UTP cables are referred to as data-grade UTP cables, the lower category of these cables are known as voice-grade UTP cables.
